Taras, a four-year-old lion, was discovered as a four-month-old cub inside a duffel bag at the Odesa railway station. He and his two sisters, Lesya and Stefania, along with an unrelated slightly older cub named Prada from Kyiv, were transported to the United States in November 2022. Their journey was facilitated by the Wildcat Sanctuary, a private refuge near Sandstone, Minnesota, working in conjunction with the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW).

Upon arrival, the cubs were placed in quarantine and seemed to be adjusting well to their new, secure environment.
